The School Health Research Network (SHRN) is new, informal mechanism for promoting school health research. Our accomplishments to date are modest.
SHRN began its work by re-conceptualizing the school setting. Drawing from systems theory and other ecological approaches to school health research, members have developed and validated a new framework for investigating the school environment. We also favour the use of new research methods in studying the school context.
As part of SHRN’s development, lists of Canadian researchers, recent Canadian studies, and local school board/public health units with contacts have been compiled and presented here.
SHRN members are also publishing several items on this website that will help disseminate school health research findings and knowledge. These include summaries of recent findings and self-assessment tools for schools and public health agencies that can also be used in research studies. The development of an online School Health Journal is also being considered.
